Embracing Change: My Journey from Corporate Life to Life Coaching
As I sit down to write this, I feel a surge of gratitude and a sense of calm that I never thought I’d experience in my career. Stepping away from the corporate world and into life coaching wasn’t just about switching jobs; it was a journey of self-discovery, authenticity, and finding time to really be with my family in a way that matters deeply.
The Corporate World: A Complicated Love Affair
Like many, I started out believing that professional success—climbing ladders, hitting goals, getting the next promotion—would bring me fulfillment. And in many ways, I loved the thrill, the challenges, and the financial stability that corporate life provided. But there were times I felt like I was just going through the motions. I’d sit in back-to-back meetings, work late into the night, and catch myself being pulled away from family dinners, mentally ticking through my to-do list rather than connecting with the people I loved most.
There was a subtle disconnect building, and as much as I ignored it, it wasn’t going away. I felt like I was missing out—not just on precious family time, but on a deeper sense of purpose.
My Wake-Up Call
In 2019, I hit my breaking point. I’d been grinding nonstop, ignoring every sign that I was completely burnt out. My job had become my whole world, and in the process, I’d put my family—especially my kids—on the back burner one too many times.
One night, after a long work event, I was exhausted, drained, and had too much to drink. But I thought I could handle it. I got behind the wheel, feeling invincible and desperate to just get home. Moments later, I was on the road, and before I knew it, I’d lost control of the car. It was pure luck I walked away unscathed. The crash was my wake-up call, loud and clear.
It hit me hard: this job had taken everything from me, including my sense of responsibility. I’d put my career ahead of my babies, my safety, my sanity. That night forced me to reassess everything. I promised myself it was the last time I’d ever let work push me that far, and I committed to putting what truly matters—my family and my health—first.
A Life of Purpose and Connection
Looking back on my journey from corporate life to life coaching, I’m filled with gratitude. I’ve found a calling that resonates with my values and allows me to be my authentic self. And the best part? I get to be present for my family in ways that truly matter. Every day, I feel privileged to help others navigate their own paths with intention and purpose.
If you’re on the edge of a change in your life—whether it’s in your career, relationships, or personal growth—I encourage you to listen to that voice. Embrace the unknown and trust that each step is bringing you closer to a life that feels true to you. After all, there is nothing lost if we learn something from it.
With all my gratitude,
Coach Niks
